The Challenge
Lending is two systems that have to behave like one.
Origination and servicing are usually built, bought and operated separately. One handles getting to a disbursal; the other handles everything that happens for the years afterwards. The borrower is the same person throughout, but the record is not.
Where the data goes missing
The handover is the weak point. Everything gathered during origination — how the applicant was sourced, what was verified, what the file looked like at the moment of approval, which exception was allowed and by whom — is the context that makes a collections conversation intelligent two years later.
When the two halves are separate systems, most of that context does not make the journey. What arrives in servicing is a loan account and a schedule. What was lost is the reason the loan was approved.
Why that matters later, not now
It costs nothing on day one. It costs on the day an account goes delinquent and the person calling the borrower has a repayment schedule and no idea who this is, how they were onboarded, or what was already known about them at approval.
An audit asks the same question from the other direction: show the file as it stood when this was sanctioned. That is straightforward when origination and servicing share a record, and an archaeology project when they do not.
What needed to be solved
One borrower record that survives disbursal rather than being recreated after it.
Origination — application, KYC, credit decisioning, disbursal — as stages on that record.
Servicing — repayment schedules, collections, delinquency — reading from the same record.
An audit trail showing who approved what, when, and against which version of the file.
Stages and approval steps that can be configured, because no two lenders have the same credit policy.
[CONFIRM: this case study was written without a dashboard screenshot or a product walkthrough. The structure is right; the specifics need checking against what was actually built — particularly the decisioning and collections sections — before this is published.]
What We Did
We built origination and servicing as two views of one record.
Our approach
The decision was architectural rather than cosmetic: one borrower entity, with origination and servicing as stages against it, instead of two systems joined by an export.
01 — Origination (LOS)
Application capture, KYC, credit decisioning and disbursal run as stages on the borrower record, each leaving behind what it saw and who signed it off.
Because the stages write to the record rather than to a separate pipeline, the file at the moment of approval is reconstructable afterwards — which is exactly what both a collections officer and an auditor need, for opposite reasons.
02 — Servicing (LMS)
Repayment schedules, collections and delinquency read from the same record the application was built on. The person chasing a payment can see how the loan was sourced and what was verified, without a second system or a phone call.
03 — Approvals and the audit trail
Every decision — approval, exception, disbursal — is recorded against the record with its actor and its timestamp. The trail is a by-product of using the system rather than something maintained alongside it.
04 — Configurable, because credit policy is not universal
Stages, approval steps and the fields each one requires are configurable, so the system follows the lender’s policy rather than asking the lender to adopt the software’s.
[CONFIRM: add the specifics actually built — decisioning rules, repayment schedule types, collections workflow, any regulatory reporting. Replace this placeholder before publishing.]
The Outcome
One borrower record, from application to closure.
Origination and servicing operate on the same record, so the context gathered before disbursal is still there years later when it is needed.
Collections conversations start informed
The person calling a delinquent borrower has the origination file, not just a schedule — which changes the conversation from a demand into a discussion.
The file is reconstructable
Who approved what, when, and against which version of the application is available without assembling it from two systems.
Built to the lender’s policy
Configurable stages and approvals mean the system reflects how this lender actually underwrites rather than a generic model of how lending works.
[CONFIRM: outcome numbers and any live-performance claims. Nothing in this section should be published as a measured result until the real figures are confirmed.]
Loan origination and loan management built as one system rather than two, sharing a single borrower record.
